For(soot)h! There Will Be Soot

Soot, rightly, is often viewed as an unseemly outcome when it comes to one’s candles. At Kill Your Darlings Candle Company, we take pride in using candle components that minimize the output of soot.

That said, the shape of our eight-ounce jars does, at times, lend itself to capturing some of the sootiness that arises naturally as a result of burning, well, anything.

Proper wick care will curb the production of soot to some extent, but if you do find soot collecting on the inside of your jar, it can be tempered.

In order to keep your jar clean and tidy, you can, when the candle is unlit and the glass is at room temperature, use a wet washcloth to wipe away soot from the inside of your jar. But, again: only do this when your candle is unlit and the glass is at room temperature.

So now you know: you can keep that glass looking as sharp as the day you first unboxed it. All it will take is a touch-up now and then—and that’s assuming you experience soot in the first place, which you very well may not!

As always, embrace the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi with our soy candles. But, if you have any questions about your candle’s performance, please let us know.
